Stairway to Stardom

‘Stairway to Stardom’ premiered on September 12th, 2017 at HERE Arts Center in New York City and ran until September 23rd.

‘Stairway to Stardom’ is a dance/theater multimedia performance by director Amanda Szeglowski and her dance troup ‘cakeface,’ in collaboration with Brian Wenner (sound) and visual artist Matt O’Hare (visual projections). The show revolves around a cast of five female performers (Amanda Szeglowski, Ali Castro, Nola Sporn Smith, Ayesha Jordan, Jade Daugherty) as they explore their personal struggles with stardom and everyday life. The show combines choreographed motion with rigid, monotone dialogue that is further accentuated by jagged video design and an experimental sound score. The result is an immersive and darkly humorous performance that feels futuristic yet approachable.
